Scheduled Maintenance
BankservAfrica will upgrade the Managed Network Service (MNS) firmware and software of the MSE devices and core switches in Randburg, Selby and Teraco Isando. These changes are pertinent from a governance and audit perspective to bring all these devices to the latest recommended firmware version to ensure overall stability on the MNS.

All network changes have been planned with minimal impact; however, there might be intermittent network disruption during these change windows for all inbound connections to Selby and Randburg and Teraco sites respectively when the switches reboot during the individual changes.

Implementation will be conducted at the below times. Note that although five hours has been allocated to the implementations per change, the actual implementations will likely take only a fraction of the time allocated. The remainder of the time will be utilised for monitoring network stability and performance post implementation.

Part 3 - Teraco Isando MSEs and core switches upgrade change

All Xconnects and AWS hosted services will be unreachable for 30 minutes. AWS services will have no mitigation as they are currently solely hosted in Teraco Isando. Customers with alternative connectivity will failover to their DR connectivity. Customers without alternative connectivity will be down for the duration of the core switch upgrade. Anticipated downtime will impact the following services:

o API connections for AVS-R and RTC, AC
o Delivery (SBSA)
o All connections from on-prem to AWS [ AC Realtime (on prem) to AC Batch (AWS) && AVS-R (on prem) to AVS Batch (AWS)]
o Payshap

Scheduled - BankservAfrica is planning to conduct HPE Non-Stop OS and SQLMX version upgrades/maintenance on the Randburg and Selby processing sites. The upgrades are done to meet compliance requirements and to align with BankservAfrica’s IT Security policies.

To mitigate the risk of the deployment into production, the deployment will be staggered between the two production sites. The upgrade for the Randburg site will be conducted on Monday, the 16th of September 2024, and for the Selby site on the 07th of October 2024.

The maintenance has been planned for minimal disruption and will be done during low peak hours of 00:15 am – 05:00 am, with anticipated downtime of +-5 hours for each site on the respective days.

The products/services that will be impacted by the upgrade are:
• ATM Online
• SMS POS Online
• DMS POS Online
• RTC
• AVS
• AC/DebiCheck TT3A
• Mastercard SMS
• UnionPay Online (UPI)

On the day of the upgrade, the BankservAfrica Command Centre will contact the respective banks that are only connected to the change site.

The banks will be required to re-establish their connections on those dates as soon as the application for the respective environments/products is restarted.

Only when all the banks are processing on the alternate site then, the IT teams will commence with the upgrade. Once the upgrade is complete the applications will be switched on in a controlled sequence per product.

Progress updates will be communicated via the BankservAfrica Command Centre (SMS) to the external stakeholders until the change is complete.
